(2-min read)

Hi networkers,
Last week, a colleague of mine told me how she landed her dream role in product management and it reminded me of how I got hired.
More so, it reminded me about what I did after the interview that got me hired, so Iβll share that today. (I also included an email template for you.)
Oh and as always, super fun networking events are included below, happy reading!

TOPIC
Follow-Up Emails Done Right

Ever finished an interview and thought to yourself, βhmm so whatβs next?β
The answer to that is you should follow up! But itβs not something as simple as sending a thank you email, thatβs the bare minimum.
With a little creativity, follow-ups can separate you from the competition.
Thatβs what I did to land my current role in Digital Strategy Transformation!
After my 1st round of interviews, my interviewers said they were going to narrow it down for a possible 2nd round next week.
I wanted to stand out to at least make it to the 2nd round, so I sent a follow-up email the following day, hereβs what I wrote -
Hi Derek and Josh!
It's Michael, wanted to say thank you for interviewing me the other day. It was great learning about OMERS and your roles within the strategy and planning team.
I also attached a slide presentation for a past case competition that I won.
I didn't get a chance to talk about it but thought I'd showcase relevant past work if anyone was curious in checking it out.
Of course, it's entirely optional to view and I could always discuss it if I was moved forward. Thanks again!
Best,
Letβs go over 3 things that made this follow-up unique.
I didnβt just say thank you, I gave feedback on WHAT I enjoyed
I went a step further and submitted previous work
I considered interviewers not present in the call
So did the follow-up work? Well, the day after I sent it, I got a call from the hiring manager, she said they decided to skip the 2nd round and gave me the role!
Long story short, not only did my email make me stand out, it pretty much solidified my chances of getting the job.
So, feel free to use what I wrote as a template for any of your follow up emails, because it may just land you your job.
To end off, here are some doβs and donβts when writing follow-up emails.

Actionable Step
This week, whether youβve done an interview or not, do a follow-up with any contacts youβve spoken to and offer to showcase relevant past work!
Best of luck!
-Michael
