Successful cold email example

Hey! Super quick email this week, but I think you’ll like it.
After all, we love seeing practical real example with real results. Today, I’ll showcase one of my cold emails that got replied to. Let’s jump in.
Prioritize research
If I’m being honest with myself, most cold email tips out there are complete B.S.
And that’s including some of the advice I’ve written on this newsletter.
Here’s a few to name:
Adding “Re:” in the subject line
Having a TLDR
Keeping the email under X amount of words
The reality is that all these tips crumble a part unless you spent time researching the person. Not a 30 second profile skim, I’m talking at least 10 minutes.
Researching is the core of cold emailing because what gets people to reply isn’t your achievements, it’s your ability to invoke an emotion out of them.
To do that, you need to understand them on a personal level, and then pinpoint common links between the two of you.
A few weeks ago, I utilized some effective research to get a response to one of my cold emails, I’ll share it with you below.
Cold email example

The profile you see above is who I chose to email.
As you can see, we can already identify a few common links between me and Jaskar:
We both work in product
We both went to the same university
Not bad talking points, but there’s actually a 3rd point to mention, see his banner?
He writes a weekly series every Tuesday called “Tech Tuesday”.
You probably see where I’m going with this now.
I also happen to write a weekly series every Tuesday - it’s this very newsletter you’re reading.
Once I identified what we had in common, I wrote this cold email:

Notice how brief it is, but also notice my attempt to connect with Jaskar within the subject line.
Right away, I’m pointing out niche info about Jaskar (his Tuesday series), and I tie myself into the equation by also calling myself a Tech Tuesday writer.
No joke, I spent 80% of my effort on the subject line alone.
It’s arguable the most important part of any email, and unless to get this part right, the rest will void.
So anyways, what was the result?
He replied 1 week later with the following:

Would you look at that, I even got a stamp of approval.
This just goes to show how researching makes the difference.
Alright, that was it!
Let me know in the polls if you like these cold email examples with real screenshots, I have more in the vaults if so.
That’s all for today. If you enjoyed this post, share it with a friend!
